Attention New Members and those new registering!
We had a lot of problems with spammers and bot attacks with the stock measures provided by the software. The 7 for registration was a fix that we came up with on our own that has worked quite well. Yes it is a PIA for both you and administration to put you onto your chosen username.
If you come back on and your login does not work retry with your username without the 7.

Thanks for joining us from the administration.

I put together a 7.35 cavalry moschetto ( cav carbine) from parts and tested the front sight assembly with old military loads I had put into modern brass. I don't actually trust the old cases.

All was well with the front sight staying put, but the little carbine does kick a bit. Time for a light cast load! I think Lyman used to make a .300 bullet mold, but they go for big $ these days. For others who like to have fun for less expense you can try buying a custom bullet sizer kit from Lee Precision.

When the receptionist answers tell her that's what you want & give her the dimensions which was .300 in this case. Last time I bought one, they cost 25 delivered, and it took about 4 weeks for delivery.

I use 150 grain, gas checked 30 cal bullets that I can also use in 30-30. Size some to .300 and bell your cases. If anyone reading this wonders about brass, you can just run some 6.5 Carcano brass through a 7.35 FL die and you're in biz. Die hards can trim the extra millimeter off, but it doesn't seem to be necessary.

For this test, I used 18.0 grains of 2400 which was good for about 1750 fps. Recoil was quite mild and no signs of pressure. The wind was blowing so I really didn't try for group, but I see accuracy potential.

I haven't tried this load in a short rifle yet. SW
