The Ultra is actually also called the 9x18 which is which is why I want to wring peoples necks who started using it to mark 9mm makarovs and I passed up several good deals on Maks thinking they were Ultras.
The 9x21 was an attempt to get by laws forbidding people to own military cartridges/pistol. They chambered them 2mm deeper but still were tied to the OAL of the 9x19 (luger) because of magazine length (Italy was a country mentioned although people have tried to forbid military ammo in this country too)
The 9x23 is identical to the Largo externally- the casing has less internal room so be advised to reduce charges accordingly This die will load 9mm largo.
Many star pistols are marked 38/9mm because they shot 38 ACP and 9 Largo the main difference between the largo and 38 ACP is the rim. Those so marked supposed have a different bolt face/extractor.
The 38 ACP headspaced the rim thus the tiny little piece at the end of the camber to catch the rim- this was a failed experiment that only lasted about 70 years.) The sins of the 38 ACP were carried over to the 38 SUPER (NOT RECOMMENDED for shooting in the 9mm largo)
Most moderns 38 Super now head space on forward casing (which cleared up a lot of inaccuracies supposedly) Some casings I have dealt with actually have smaller rim diameter
SO the 38 super/ 38 ACP dies will load 9mm largo with a 9mm (luger) shell holder
I have reloaded the super, and largo, 9x23 for several types of pistols and this is my expience with these
We have 2 medusa revolvers made by Phillips and Rodgers and have created and fired most centerfire 9 mm and 38 cal cartridges with tapered or straight bodies known from the 19th and 20th century including the fabled 9mm Mag, unless the casing is too long like the 357 maximum which we use a dan wesson for.
The only idiosyncrasy is that one will fired 9x23 and one wont and although they will fire the 380 ACP they are more trouble than they are worth.
I love my star super 9mm largos- we even feed them 9mm luger and they function without a hiccup.
NOTICE no wheres in this email have I advocated firing 38 super or 9x23 from a 9 Largo. I DO NOT RECOMMEND OR ENDORSE USING 9x23 or 38 SUPER in a 9 Largo

I never did buy that pistol, but this is information I hope to keep filed upstairs.
