Going to start loading for the M1 carbine and was wondering what everyone was using for primers. I use CCI for everything right now but have noticed that Winchester and Rem are $4-5 cheaper per 1000 where I buy them from. TIA

Actually Jeff, I've used about all major brands & can't tell the difference in these old militaries.
I just buy whatever I can get (the cheaper the better!) and load away.Right now I've got Rem. ,Win. ,
Federal & Wolf in various sizes. HTH -TR

I don't know about the rest but Winchester lrp are a bit too sensitive for autos. I have read about them and experienced a slam fire with them in an 8mm 49FN. Garands and I think carbines do have some built in protection that keeps the firing pin blocked off until the rotation of the bolt. I am not sure if it works during cartridge stripping and initial forward movement of the bolt.

I know this is an old thread, but I thought I'd add something based on my limited experience of loading .30 Carbine.

Watch out for high primers, i.e., primers that when seated are raised above the face of the cartridge head. The primer pocket in some .30 Carbine cases isn't as deep as others. Be sure to fully seat the primers. This cartridge seems to be critical in this way. It's also possible that some SR primers are a hair taller than other brands.

While I'm on the subject, be sure to check cartridge case length. Remember, this cartridge headspaces on the mouth just like a 9mm or .45 ACP and if you get a long case, it may not seat in battery.

Zombie thread! I've been testing 30 carbine loads and have found AA 1680 works well. I've gotten better accuracy from that powder than H110 or 296. Meters consistently, too! SW
