Post subject: | Counter boring questions |
I'm not sure yet but I suspect the rifling of my Yugo is washed out about 1 1/2 from the muzzle, from old steel rod cleaning damage I expect. From that point back the rifling looks decent and is cleaning up better than I expected. Theres still plenty of carbon build up in the grooves so I'll only know for sure when I get a chance to test it for accuracy. I don't want to shorten the barrel if I can salvage accuracy without doing that. Though cutting the gun down had been my original intention, I've got the restoration bug now and proper replacement parts I needed for a restoration are becoming available.. I've seen a few counterbored bolt action rifles and I hear they shoot just fine. So I'm figuring this is a more suitable option. Can those who know much about counter bored barrels give me an idea of how I should go about this and an idea of the diameter of the counter bore for a 7.62 bore? I've cut a few chambers in my time and I'm thinking a .32 S&W long reamer would do the trick. What do you think? I appreciate any input. |
