Attention New Members and those new registering!
We had a lot of problems with spammers and bot attacks with the stock measures provided by the software. The 7 for registration was a fix that we came up with on our own that has worked quite well. Yes it is a PIA for both you and administration to put you onto your chosen username.
If you come back on and your login does not work retry with your username without the 7.

Thanks for joining us from the administration.

These are Austro-Hungarians in the mountains above Caporetto with a captured Italian MG. Notice the officer has cut down a sword for use as a fighting knife. SW

I had a book years ago, that was a condensed version of WW1

as in it was not a huge compendium , but it covered each front in some detail, but not down to the last man and trench line

what did surprise me, (and only because at the time WW1 was all trenches in France and Belgium, and the Flying Circus etc etc) was the chapter on fighting in the Alps and over thru Armenia,

high elevation, winter weather, and a lot of troops froze to death,

I loaned that book to someone and never saw it again

In the Caporetto campaign, Italy and Austria-Hungary lost a combined 60,000 men to avalanches alone.

The mountains shown here wasn't far from where Rommel earned his Pour le Merite - or Blue Max. He and his group of storm troops routed the entire Italian 2nd Army by themselves. SW
