Yesterday's Weapons Forums

Here we see what appears to be a soldier from Austria-Hungary testing a portable shield.

What seems odd is that he's wearing spurs... and carrying an M.95 long rifle... and testing equipment clearly not meant to be used horseback. I am not able to explain it.

Any ideas, Comrade Artist? SW

well - i have a pair of waders in that patern , a friend said he could not see me at fifty yards downstream in the fall ..........maybe he had his eyes closed ????

The spurs and long rifle suggest Mounted Infantry.

Its unlikely that such a heavy armor could be carried on foot for very far.

Most Calvary was relegated to Mounted Infantry tactics once automatic weapons made the Calvary charge suicidal.

Mounted Infantry rode into the general area of a battle then dismounted to fight on foot. There were exception such as the charge of the Australian Light Horsemen who were actually mounted infantry rather than calvary and carried no sabers.

Interesting armor, not sure if that one is in my book.
