I had a book years ago, that was a condensed version of WW1 as in it was not a huge compendium , but it covered each front in some detail, but not down to the last man and trench line what did surprise me, (and only because at the time WW1 was all trenches in France and Belgium, and the Flying Circus etc etc) was the chapter on fighting in the Alps and over thru Armenia, high elevation, winter weather, and a lot of troops froze to death, I loaned that book to someone and never saw it again |

In the Caporetto campaign, Italy and Austria-Hungary lost a combined 60,000 men to avalanches alone. The mountains shown here wasn't far from where Rommel earned his Pour le Merite - or Blue Max. He and his group of storm troops routed the entire Italian 2nd Army by themselves. SW |
