Post subject: | US Krag |
riceone I lucked up on this Krag last week and posted it on the US Weapons forum on Gun Boards to see what I had. I wanted you to see it but am too lazy to post all those pictures again. Go to this site: riceone www.gunboards.com/forums/..._ID=194284 yockey5 Roy, she is so beautiful! What a nice deal you happened upon!!!! mikmarjon No kidding,I found one of these in tenn. the last time I was down there that looked like it was dragged behind a truck for a hundred miles and he wanted 900 dollars for it. Great find Roy. I can't wait to see it in person. Kar98AZfan I don't think I've ever seen one that nice Roy! Congrats-TR riceone I don't know if I will shoot it but several years back when I bought up some ammo from a hardware that was getting rid of it I got 5 boxes. Never know what you will you will need, just keep everything. riceone. stripperclip real nice looking rifle Roy. A square 10 roy , shes a beauty , and you realize you stole it dont you ? what a deal , its 10000+/- younger than mine and wears a newer rear sight , but ive got a 1901 cartouches you have , thats a beautiful stock you have as well , cant say enough but do shoot it - ive enjoyed shooting all of mine and dont worry about the modern 30-40 its good to these riceone A Square, can you give me a little information on the rear sight. Was it designed for target or just long range shooting. Thats a tiny hole when it is pushed up. It is a beautiful old gun. riceone What the mind can conceive and believe,it can achieve A square 10 roy i'm not an expert here and noticed you got responses from some of the folks on the other site that i respect , but it was the service sight , not a target sight , there were two similar to that one , the 1898 had three cuts - one centered with a distinct line for ease of identification when sighting and one each side of center [for windage ? i've not found any specific data on these and don't have one] as well as the screw type windage adjuster , the second was the 1902 which looks similar but has only the center sighting cut [notch] with the worm drive type windage adjuster , there were also serations added on the left side of the leaf to prevent elevation changes due to recoil - this sight had 5 types i think , the second type is a 1898 modified to 1902 by eliminating the two outside notches , the third has a peep plate added - used in the down position of elevation i understand and can be lowered to allow use of the notch when elevated , the fourth is a reworked 98 with the peep plate added , and the fifth is a combination of a number of sights and has elements of the first sight used on the M1903 , this area gets confusing for me as there are 16-18 different variations of krag rear sight for the rifle and carbine which means there is a multitude of handguards as well , if you see a post from bill mook you will be seeing the most accurate and studied info available - he is in most krag peoples opinions the krag guru and final word , i believe he has one of the finest collections in the world , some of those who responded to you on the other sight are highly respected as well , this area of gun collecting could get very expensive but you got started right at a great cost to value ratio , now you need a nice bayonet riceone A Square you supplied plenty of information and I thank you. I expect that will be my only Krag which is a good one to quit on. Thanks riceone. What the mind can conceive and believe,it can achieve MasterCork Roy, Wow! What a deal. How could it have happened on Gunboards? You must have hit buy one nano second after it was posted. I feel I am going to be forced into a Krag sporter, as I cannot justify the normal cost, or value however you look at it. I have wanted a Krag since I was a teenager, they were very popular old deer rifles in Penna, many guys still use them. Smooth actions. Makes up some for many other deals a man doing this as long as you have has made, if you know what I mean. |
