I began reading E.B. Sledge's "With The Old Breed" which the series "The Pacific" is largely based on. Anybody else read it. So far, its better than the series. Victor Davis Hanson's introduction has so far proven true. The book is straight forward and well written, but not what you commonly read in such a first person account. Amazing stuff every page. Best Regards, Mark BTW, he flunked out of officers training on purpose to enlist, so did 90 out of 150 fellow trainees of his. This was in mid-1943. |

I'm about 1/3 of the way through and it only gets better. The characters, detail, and straight forward writing are as advertised. He explains, people, tactics, and emotions all at the same time. Well done and then some. Best Regards, Mark |
