Not Remagen , A movie was made about it. Other bridges were destroyed, but this one stayed intact. In 1984 I participated in an annual 100 mile foot march, one of the routes took us over this bridge. You could still see all the bullet marks in the steel girders. |

Winner winner, but I'm not buying ya a chicken dinner Seriously though, that bridge is big. The Dutch took it upon themselves to "adopt" into their families, the grave of every fallen allied soldier who died in the liberation of Holland. That honor is passed along to each generation for the perpetual care of that soldiers grave-site. A festival/memorial is held each year to honor that liberation and to remember the soldiers, a version of "Taps" called Il Selenzio is played. For this soldier, I found it very moving.
