I mentioned this in another thread. IJN Nagato in harbor just after the surrender. In the battle of the Phillipine Sea, near misses from dive bombers badly buckled the hull so it was barely able to make it into port.

There weren't resources to repair it, so guns, ammo & fuel were removed for other ships' use. Some of the damage shown happened during air raids against the harbor.

This was from the negative file of a navy vet who had some very unusual pics. One showed miniature submarines in harbor. One had been lifted by crane to show entrance was from the bottom where the hatch was bolted shut... from the outside! They were suicide subs from the final days. I tend to claustrophobia and cannot imagine crawling inside to be bolted in forever.

My closest friend had his pic file, but when he passed away, his idiot brother threw them out. SW

what a crime throwing out all of that history - much we will not see anywhere today
