FWIW, this book from the amazon link is somewhat smaller overall than the original, but contains all of the photos in Carell's original volume with absolutely perfect translations to all of the photos. I have both the original and the above english one, and pretty much the only difference is the languages they're printed in. Cover to cover, photos with captions, accompanying both of Carell's books, 'Unternehmen Barbarossa' and 'Scorched Earth'. Tried to opload resized pics of the front&backs of the original but with no luck... https://www.amazon.com/Operation-Barbar ... 0887402801 |

.. was so intent on getting the photos of the front&back covers resized to post that I forgot to mention my reason for posting was that this book is several hundred pages of candid photos by front soldiers, very few if any of which were of the posed type for propaganda reasons. Every little kid including me loved the idea of going camping, fishing, shooting guns and hunting, but dad pretty much set me straight on what he thinks about all of that a very long time ago when he told me, 'I slept on the ground in Russia for over a year and almost two winters, and I'll never do anything like that again ... if you want to learn how to camp and fish and hunt, then go find somebody else to teach you'. |
