Not that they knew, but for my money, the viable plan would have been to beat feet west & try to surrender to Americans or Brits. SW

There's still a lot of strong feelings about WWII in that part of the world. On one of the Russian sites where I lift vintage pics, a common caption to nazi pics is still "Smert Fascistam!!!" ** Death to Fascists!** From a number of people posting!

In another photoset, there was a pic of a very young Volkssturm being attended by an American medic. His wound must not have been too bad as he still had the energy to weep bitterly. It made a powerful statement but was too graphic to post here.

It's very hard to draw a line and assign the roles of who was right & who was in the wrong. Both sides committed unspeakable atrocities. SW

while the behaviors of the foot soldiers can be debated, i disagree with the cloudy line statement. the nazis invaded their neighbors, and in a very deliberate manner, even after there was great efforts to avert the war.

the russians, like the other allies pushed them back and defeated them, i dont know if the russians would have invaded germany if the war had not occurred, but there is plenty of blame to go around for the atrocities, and i do believe they should be pursued till all of the perpetrators are dead.

I think all the perpetrators are about dead----from old age.

not quite - ive seen two stories just this week on perpetrators being processed to extradite for war crimes trials , and last week there was that one i asked about who is fighting it ,

based on what happened - i dont blame the jewish human rights group continueing to seek them out and bring them to trial
