...my father in law went thru here,it was my turn....but under much more pleasant conditions......Monte Cassino-rebuilt....took this pic on the way to see Rome in '74-30 years later...following in his footsteps..........and now as I post this,its been 64 years.........man,time flies-eh... \

Lots of ordnance placed on MC but the allies were very surprised when they faced heavy opposition by the Germans.

...yeah-they weren't "in" there...they waited til it was over and moved in-then they had lotsa new hiding places to pick off the good guys.....we actually made it easier for them and harder for us...

sorry mario , that went over my head i guess , i understood both of you had been there but i hadnt comprehended that only you under peacefull times , somehow i read it as both had visited later and both were immpressed with the story of what had happened ,

i now 'get it' and it makes an entirely different post out of it for me ...............sometimes i get lost , if you see me wandering aimlessly just point , ill catch on eventually
