Yesterday's Weapons Forums

July 27 1953, the day the armistice was signed ending major hostilities between north and south Korea. Allowing P.O.W.'s to decide on there own, to stay where they were or to go home. Move the border a bit farther north than it had been and cost of over 50,000 American lives and a unknown number of Korean and Chinese lives.
Today July 27, 2012 I took a long time friend out to lunch because he is going out of state to an assisted living home and to be close to his children. He is also a Korean Vet.. During lunch he mentioned what the day was and said he was going to tell me something he had never told anyone before but was now ready to tell someone. He started his story in the back of a truck where a young forward observer/ radio operator was on his way to the Chosin Reservoir, and he talked about what he saw and did all the way down Korean and a good deal of the way back up. I learn a great deal today and now understand why my father never did talk about his combat time there to the day he died. I have always had respect for the men who have 'seen the elephant' also but even more so now because of this first hand account history lesson. He did not give me permission to tell anybody so I will honor him by not telling any more while he is alive but I am putting it to paper and will at lest give it to his son and daughter after he passes so they will know the full extent of the man their father really is.
Thank you for reading my rambling, I felt the need to say something even if I do not feel that I can tell his story at this time.

My wife's late father was a POW in Korea. I don't know any details but it somewhat horrific to say the least.

his children will appreciate that , i hope they understand his need to tell it and his comfort in sharing it with someone outside the family for what it really is , its very hard to talk to immediate family of things you fear they may judge you on
