One of my areas of specialization, as my screen name indicates ("Great Scott" was America's greatest general, Winfield Scott). How may I be of service? Yr. obt. svt., Tom W. Glaser |

Where to begin? Three years of wars, several campaigns, three fronts (plus the war at sea - and lakes!). For the latter, still the best is the book that cost the author graduating first in his class at Harvard - The Naval War of 1812. But the author went on to do pretty well for himself - Theodore Roosevelt. And to donyockey, the real battles of New Orleans are even more fascinating than Johnny Horton's ballad. We actually lost four of the five battles - but won the one that counted. Give me some hint as to what you'd like to hear first. Then try to stop me! Yr. obt. svt., Tom |

The Northwest Frontier it is, then. Good choice, as that's where the war begins, at Fort Michimilimackinac, and all caused by John Jacob Astor. As this is late on Friday, and I'm about to leave school for an anniversary dinner with my lovely wife, more to come manana.... Yr. obt. svt., Tom |
