Yesterday's Weapons Forums

....one of the "fun" things back then was being shadowed and at times harrassed by the Russians during our operations at sea...at times some of their ships would cut across our path during flight ops....other times come along side ignoring the "1000' bubble" we were all to maintain...but usually just follow and monitor what we were doing...on this particular occasion we had a ship that trailed us at varying distances for quite some time....when you saw it you thought it was a simple tourist cruise ship-till they got closer-or you looked closer...then a while after we anchored in a port,guess who came along...????.exhibit#1....innocent lookink pleasure cruise boat that Comrade Kaptain Ahab-ski was also bringink to same port for tourist-ski's to do shoppink....

....all "tourists" come on deck to see Evil Amerikanski Warship... ....but look closer Comrad-at the sophisticated electronic devices used to listen in and jam the good guys.....oh yes- just harmless HAM radio setup -hobby of First Mate Boris...

....as the ship passed in front of us at a good speed it then took a hard turn to starboard to cut in front of a freighter and the dock....Kaptain Ahab-ski must've had a hot date lined up...
....what I noticed was that one individual in particular seemed veeeeeery interested in what we had on deck because he was frantically photoraphink the entire time they went by....and I was takin' his pic at the same time....note the following wider agle shot then the cropped version where you can see the fella in the black outfit.....he moved about all over the aft end taking pics until out of range...(my original scans of these negative are much more detailed but I had to shrink them down to post-so there is a lot not visible that is on the original)

....ah well....I guess he did enough tourist photography to show family back in Sevastopol when he got home.....innocent tourist cruise ship then headed into port for a night of Vodka and Borcsht...
