On board the Klondike I was on the ships landing party team with a bunch of the gunner mate's and we patrolled the main
Deck watching over board for divers or
Junks getting to close to the ship trying
To attach exsplosives to the hull. One day
We had incomeing rounds landing about
1 to 200 yds off our bow. The ship was called to general quarter s . To get under
Way and leave the ships tried up next to
Us for repairs for them selves.
It turned out to be our own guys that just
Got done cleaning some artillery and were just firing a few rounds off. Checking
It out.
I guess that's as close as I've come to being under fire.
