Don't Ever Try to Volunteer Me to Play Pinocle Again

Sometime back when I was a private soldier, new to the Army, I was confined to my barracks for a weekend. We won't go into how that came about. Also in that barracks were three sergeants stuck there for the weekend for staff duty NCO or some other nonsense. These three clowns needed a fourth player for pinocle, and having no rank (I was an E-1), they "volunteered" me to play as the fourth.

I had never before, nor have I ever since, played pinocle. I didn't want to then, and I don't want to now. So they hauled me upstairs to the cadre area and gave me basic instruction in how to play. Since this was just a flat waste of time for me, I intentionally played with reckless abandon. I played with such obvious disregard for a will to win that in short order I was told, "Get the hell out of here, you're worse than useless" and with that, I took my leave.

How stupid is it to think that you can order someone to enjoy themselves?

i can sympathise with that one , one year - the last year tha we had company wide patry , we took a bus to a german supper club , very good food and a short open bar , everything went well till after dinner ,
then the place supplied snoose [a feature of their quisine] and shots of jagermeister , this started a snowball downhill with some young fellas who had chritmass money in their pockets ,
i wouldnt drink at one of these things if you paid me and threatened to fire me .....but they had no such reservations at all , shortly after the buss left we had the drunkest loose his supper - it set off a few more , even with all of the windows open it nearly killed the rest of us on that hour long drive back ,

oh --- and then to add insult to injury , i had to call the police and restrain two from getting into their cars and driving home from the lot the buss dropped us off at ,

..try riding back the last Liberty Launch to the carrier at 4 a.m. in rough water after the first nite in port after 6 weeks at sea
