Pretty tender... but a little gamey. Tastes vaguely of pronghorn. |

In 71, I was going to college on the GI Bill - which didn't leave a lot of $ left over for eats, and jobs were scarce that winter. My pal had his Dad's Carcano, and we lived on deer all that winter. I don't recall Bambi being any less deceased for having been whacked with a lowly I-talian rifle. My sweetie could cut-n-wrap with the best of 'em! Being a poor starving student that winter wasn't so bad. I had a job at a liquor store/pizza place & we usually had a bottle o' vino to make the deer lions slide down a little easier... No TV so we sat & talked a lot. She had a V-Dub & a tank of gas would last forever. We'd cruise the upper crust neighborhoods & pretend we were all rich. The dumb stuff you don't do just to pass the time... Lord have mercy, my sweetie was a cutie! Ah, them was the days! SW |

I like the thought of milsurps being out there as hunting rifles but makes me sad to see one that's been all cut up and sporterized |

Nice deer, Pete. Nice Mauser, too. Is that the original stock? Nice wood. Reminds me of Tiger Maple. Dean |

I know this is a old post, but I can't help but Agree with you they are great hunting rifles. I carry one for part of our deer season Haven't had the right deer show up yet. It's just a matter of time. P.S. very nice M.S.R.guys. |

In 1961 I lived on a ranch in a very rural part of western Nebr. Mom & dad went to town once a week. While Mom was shopping, I wandered up & down the main street of a small town. In a hardware store I saw an ad for 1917 rifles for sale @ 19.95. Brang new in cosmolene. Told dad & he bought one. Like rifles from Albania, it had been SOAKED in cosmo. He cleaned it with a bucket o' gasoline & sporterized it. Which is most uncool today, but for a cash-strapped ranch foreman, it was a using rifle for an affordable price. Shot a lot of deer with it, we did! SW |

I can remember as a kid looking at old surplus Rifles in the Montgomery Wards catalog don't Remember the $. But my mother must have notice that, one day She took me to the Western Auto store and bought Me a new Revelation 100 22 cal. Rifle. Don't have the rifle anymore , but I due have The steel box gun cleaning kit. With the Revelation name on it , witch was the stores Brand name. P.s. I don't want to hijack this. Trend so I will start Another , I have another story like this. |

It was an Eddystone. I got a bloody nose from it first deer I shot - choked up too far on the stock. Didn't notice until I was gutting the deer & thought I cut myself. "Admin work ethic?" Maybe not - we have a heck of a time getting anyone to clean the terlet. And SOMEONE keeps messing with the wrestling magazines!!! They WERE in chronological order!! SW |
