I was surprised people raced 4 bangers. It was probably a case of race what you can afford. At first I thought one pic was a straight 8, but I think it's a 6 cylinder. SW |

Auto lite made carbide headlamps for cars. I don't think it was the same as autolite sparkplug inc. I used to have a justrite carbide cave lamp. They have a neat way to ignite the acetylene. You pocket you hand over the bowl and withdraw it using your palm to rotate the striker wheel. Pop! My dad told me that the railroad used the carbide to fill tanks. I think my grandfather or his father had a carbide generator to make gas to light the house. |

The red panel delivery is a Chev for sure. Stumped a bit on the year though- not quite a '53, but still very nice. Regards, Doc Sharptail |

Must have been a little tight getting in and out of that Beetle with it's 4 tiny doors. I remember reading somewhere that the small doors were not successful in the north american market. The beetle got turned into a coupe with just 2 longer doors- but they were still a tight fit for me and my six foot frame. My college advisor had a super beetle that I was actually in quite a bit. Short throw shift non-synchro was actually nice to drive. Didn't find better until the Corolla SR-5... Regards, Doc Sharptail |

#4 is a Bugatti. From what I've been able to find out, all were hand built, and there were not that many of them. Could very well be an in-line 12... There was a bit of a movement towards increasing cylinder displacement before the 2nd world war interrupted things. Regards, Doc Sharptail |

Last one is very interesting- quite early 50's by my eye. There was probably a hulking big generator in the sleeper compartment of the cab-over to power the mechanicals in the trailer. Looks like a string puppet show in the very center, with the rest being electro-hydraulic motion mannequins. Would have been nice to see a clip of this in operation... Regards, Doc Sharptail |

Found an article about the double wide car shown above. Two limos joined side by side. Center support wheels are hidden. No word if they help steer. car8.jpg [ 80.62 KiB | Viewed 15040 times ] https://www.reddit.com/r/carporn/commen ... 1607x1920/ |

Enough fins there for decent soup at the Cadillac Ranch. Nice '55 bel-air by the sales office. Color repro is a bit off though. Those rear wrap windshields on the two door coupes are really sorta cool. Regards, Doc Sharptail |
