I had a baby blue 64' Pontiac Catalina for a few years in my younger days. Bought from an old man who kept it in a garage for decades in WY. All original and ran. It was like sailing a boat driving that down the road. Not an Impala, but close.

Grandmother offered me one of 2 cars she had,
she had stopped driving
choices were a 1968 Ford 500, the bargin basement version,
old lady green inside and out, Sears under the dash AC that blew cold
and a 302 ,
car had a cold light, you did not go fast, or go much at all until that light went out, then the car would get a bit,

or a
74 Caprice Classic, the 2 door version, she bought from a neighbor,
nice car, burgundy inside and out,

I kinda wanted one,, but felt it was not right for her to give it to me so I kept putting her off,

my cousin ended up with the Ford, and totaled it in a month,
he came back wanting the Chevy, but she sold it to someone to get rid of it instead of giving it to him,


both were barges, with soft rides, and would cruise all day long down the highway,
neither liked curvy roads

only ford ive ever owned was a new 67 mustang sprint convertible , i really liked that car , robins egg blue with white top and black interior .........no seat belts

My only Impala, (though I've had three Caprices) a '75 wagon. Love those clam shell wagons. Mine had a 400 small block and 3.08 12 bold posi. Went like a 4x4 thru snow. Plain strippo model, no power window or door locks or seats or AC, no wayback seat, but dang if that 400 didn't move that beast (5050lbs with ¼ tank gas on truck scale) well, of course that was after I put headers, duals, recurved the distributor and tweaked the carb. Good mpg too if I kept it under 65 on the highway, 18mpg. I miss that car.

mom had a 68 Tempest,

the shoulder belts were held up by a clip or 2 in the headliner, like a hair clip,
pulled one down once,
got yelled and and took a bit to figure out how to get it back up and look like it was supposed to,


I don't recall we ever used seatbelts, probably till 93 when I bought a Saturn that had the automatic shoulder belts

What's so funny about Peace Love and Understanding?

In Illinoiz, wearing them wasn't law until the early '80s.
I got my license in '79 and started wearing them later the same year. I learned early on it's easier to drive fast around turns and do really cool donuts when you can stay behind the wheel. Trying to hang on to the wheel while your sliding across a bench seat just didn't cut it.
