Attention New Members and those new registering!
We had a lot of problems with spammers and bot attacks with the stock measures provided by the software. The 7 for registration was a fix that we came up with on our own that has worked quite well. Yes it is a PIA for both you and administration to put you onto your chosen username.
If you come back on and your login does not work retry with your username without the 7.

Thanks for joining us from the administration.

When I was working for the National Guard, throughout the Army there were quite a number of full-sized 1971 & 1972 Fords in service. These were administrative use vehicles used for ordinary transportation purposes.

Below is a picture of a very shiny 1971 Ford Custom sedan. The bumper markings indicate that this car was assigned to the CAL ARNG headquarters in Sacramento. There is a canvas cover over a general officer star plate on the right hand side of the front bumper. I took this picture at Camp Roberts, Calif. around 1975.

The picture below was taken behind the 40th Infantry Division headquarters where some of our sedans were parked. In the foreground is a 1972 Ford Custom sedan, and in the background is a 1976 Plymouth Valiant that belonged to the RA advisors.

This picture shows a 1972 Ford that I took on a drive from Long Beach to Camp San Luis Obispo one time around 1976.

The next two images show Ford Factory build invoices for a government-purchased 1971 Ford sedan issued to the California Army National Guard. The first invoice shows the car as equipped per the government contract, line by line. The second copy is the "back invoice" which shows the actual contract price to the government which was considerably less than the "top copy" of the invoice.

The government doesn't buy cars like this any more for the various services in their distinctive colors, etc. Now they just issue out generic General Services Administration cars to all the services that are alike. Back when the cars were built for each individual service, they were purchased as what is called "end-run cars". They were purchased in July of the model year, just before the production lines were going to be shut down for changeover to the next year. This was a good deal for both the manufacturers and for the government. The manufacturer benefited from being able to use up parts that ordinarily would have just gone into storage and may have never been sold, plus they achieved production economy by building cars that were all alike. The government was able to get the lowest price from these manufacturing advantages.
