Some car companies now install a shield over the engine when it leaves the factory, you have to take it to the dealer just to get the oil level checked:!:

With every old Ford I have and drive I always keep a spare coil in the trunk! To get that many years out of one is amazing to me. |

This is why (now no yelling at me!) I am putting in my 1956 Ford F100 a modern 5.4 modular motor from a 2002 Ford Lightning (fuel injected and super charger) and in my 1965 Mustang a 1990's 302 (now a 347) with a Ford Motor Sport GT Fuel Injection set up! Now you purest's may yell at me but hey the trade off is better millage and more (smother) power! I have updated both vehicles with front disc breaks (rear also in the truck) so they will stop better and safer. The old drum breaks on both vehicles was SCARY! Of course because of the slight addiction to milsurps I'm still working on them!! Dang milsurps

My only "good" points story involved having the spring that keeps 'em closing broke-at about 45mph.Brought my progress to a quick halt.Got under the hood & figured out what was wrong.No problem,the NAPA store is only about a quarter mile back.Get the new points & stick them in-nothing.Got a friend to tow the Willys home.Seems the sudden stop when the points broke threw the worn OEM WW2 timing chain.But on the plus side,I knew how to fix that too.  I kinda miss being able to fix them like that.-TR
