I love ugly duckling guns. I buy alot of them on the internet through the various auction sites and whatnot. I know you guys have as well. Has anybody here had to deal with the : "OMG another transfer, why doesn't this guy ever buy from me, this is not worth my time, why did you buy THAT?, wait over there, second class gunshop citizen" syndrome? The FFL I was (WAS in capital letters) using treated transfers like they where rubbed over lepers and herpes victims before being placed in a box and sent to him/me. I have encountered this attitude over the years and cannot explain it. It brings people into the shop, they make 20-30 bucks for nothing more than a phone call and some writing in their "book". I'm also getting frustrated that a $50 ugly duckling project turns into 50 + 25 shipping plus 25 transfer. I remember when transfers where $10 and sometimes free. AHHHH

My local gunshop (not pawnshop) charges 35 for every transfer and 25 for the second if you do them together. I've put about 8 guns thropugh there in the last 2 months (merry christmas to me!) and I'm done with em. Now I go to the pawnshop and pay 20. SOOOOO annoying!!! They where nice enough to offer me the 20 on the last transfer. How sweet of them. Make me want to scream every time someon opens a TACTICAL gunshop where the have a gunsmih on site that cant fix anything tha does't have a 30 round mag attached to it.......

Try a search here: http://www.gunbroker.com/FFL/DealerNetwork.aspx

You might find someone who isn't as exorbitant

Checked your gb list general. Cheapest was 25 bucks and they are 24 miles away. most expensive: Get this....$45 for the transfer and $45 for the call. I'd like to know what they are smoking. I am convinced that the fees are designed to discourage online buying and encourage buy MY stuff. Anyway C&R and concealed permit applications are both in the mail. This used to be a gentelmanly, fraternity like thing. Go to the shop, swap a few stories, have some coffee........Oh well

The Gangster Mountain where I used to live charged $70 just because they did not want to do it, the little mom and pop flat out would not do it. One store in town was $20. Have not had to do it here yet, but am getting the C&R as soon as I have a permanent address.

aint that the truth - mine love when i get things because they never see these things if not for me , generally takes 15 min to complete the transaction , but they occupy an hour minimum inspecting and discussing , i try to impart a little knowledge even tho i know their interest is passing , like shopping at cabellas gun rooms , love to look but wont pay the price

My last purchase was a rohm model 31 revolver (38spc) that was missing the cylinder crane. Bought the gun for $45. Cylinder crane was 15 at gunparts corp. I know I know, rohm's are horrible little guns!!! But it goes bang and it fits nice in my tackle box and I dont have to worry about scratching it up. The guy in the gun shop could not stop talking down to me for purchasing it even though I told him the same thing. "Hell I would not have paid $10 bucks for it". OK buddy, whatever. Just make the call and get me out of here and no I don't want a box of ammo for 59.99 thank you! Geez. Makes me want to get a dealer FFL just for transfers.

I'm lucky, my fav. LGS likes transfers.(not cheap but no hassle about where you bought it) Easy money with no overhead, they get to look at all the new toys, and can have some really interesting conversations about them sometimes.

Sorry Herr Mario, thats just the frustrated forensic anthropologist in me. it's what I did in my way gone long time ago(now near 4 decades ago) right up to the time I finally figured out that working for a university as a non tenured researcher I could live indoors or eat but not the two at the same time. And it was the only icon that just seemed right to me.
