My late father-in-law was crazy for Mausers and Winchesters. He always liked the old pre-64 Model 12 pump shotguns. He had quite a few of them when he passed away. I was younger then and pump guns just weren't cool like autoloaders, so they never thrilled me. Now that I am well into my middle ages, I finally have a taste for double guns and older Winchesters. I traded for my first Model 12 (20 gauge 28" full choke) this past week. Can't wait to get it. What is so special about these old trombone slide guns, that make them so appealing?/

Thanks for the warm welcome. I received the Model 12 today and now I see why my late father-in law liked them so much. That gun has the shortest tightest action that I ever used. It is tighter than most new slide actions that I have used or tried. Not bad for a 60 year old shotgun!

Isn't the Model 21 a side by side? I don't think my father-in law every got one. He had a Parker and a few Ithacas. As for old Winchesters, he had several model 12s, model 25s, a model 50(?) autoloader, various model 70s and a bunch of leverguns...except for the Model 71 that seemed to elude him.
When he passed away, a couple of his collector friends approached my mother in law and offered her $5K- $5.5K for the collection which included some good Winchesters, Remington, US and German military rifles and all sorts of oddball collectable guns. They didn't wantmy mother in law to be stuck with the guns. For once she listened to me and my wife and had an auctioneer com and appraise them for her. The collection went up for auction and she cleared over $60K by the end of the auction. Needless to say, my father-in-laws so called friends, left the auction before my mother-in law, so they wouldn't have to face her.
