That is a ery nice Ishy. My 1916 .410 is not half that purty.

Nice! I remember when Springfield Sporters was selling those for around $60. I wish I had purchased one.

ET2SS - that's a Lee Enfield and belongs on the Enfield Forum :D

That's no scattergun! It's officially a Short, Magazine Lee Enfield, .410 Musket.

Unless it's been modified the original rifle (and yours is a beautiful example of it) was approved as a pattern in 1927 and used a .303 cartridge case which had not been necked down. Shotshells in .410 originally wouldn't fit. It was used by native troops for guard duty.

And by the way, seeing as I'm being a little picky (and I'm trying to be helpful, if a little anal), that sling is not installed in the correct regulation way! It is supposed to have the ends of the brass clamps facing outwards to prevent them scratching the wood.

Yes I Know and the brass plate should be facing the forestock not the bittstock, but this is the way it came & I really didn't care enough to change it. This way you can see SGT. O' Leary spelled in a very 'British' way.

It has also been altered by Springfield Sporters to chamber the 3" .410 shell so it is NOW a shotgun

That's still one hell of a good looking lee enfield. The right butt socket marking shows 1931 as it's original manufacture date. Ishapur/Ishapore made some of the best quality No.1 mark III's between the first and second world wars. The fit and finish in the 20's and 30's have made them especially popular if still in original condition.

Yours was converted after India's independence in 1949 to the .410 smoothbore musket and obviously converted again in civilian hands to the standard .410 shotshell.

I'd love to find one from the 20's/30's in that condition that hasn't been modified and has all matching numbers.

Have you shot it with current .410 shells?

I actually have (If I remember correctly) a 1931 Ishy all matching that is one of the better shooting No.1's I've got
