Do you mean like an old English double rifle but scaled down to hunt wild hogs? Nothing as tension building like going into the brush after a wounded potbelly.

Tarawa,

Would such a rifle have external hammers in case of a missfire so a hunter could recock? I would favor 30-30 because it is easier to obtain barrels of .308 diameter unless one wanted to install liners. It is naturally also easier to obtain ammo and reloading components. So, do you convert an existing action or create one denovo?

P.S. I was just thinking out aloud when I mentioned the hogs. I had not realized you were located in S. FLA. and I was imaging the U.S. equivalent of going into the bush after an animal. Big old wild hog was the first thing that popped into my mind. Probably Chip Hailstone would think bear, but he would be packing an M39 not something in 30-30.

With the 357 you can always use the 357 max and it will give you just a bit more ME.

Roy is probably waiting for us Bubbas to finish pipe dreaming before he shows the double he has built while we were jawing. Present company excepted.

Since you are talking 30-30 how about the 307 win it is a rimmed 308?

My son, Mark, bought a 45/70 built on a H&R single barrel shotgun and made me wonder what else you could do along the same line. How about using a 410 doulble to build a rifle. I've got chamber reamers for a 25/35. riceone

I received the book on building double rifles. Very interesting, as it shows how to make almost everthing from scratch. Very intense, but very doable.

Was it Colt that made a .45-70 double rifle on their shotgun frame?
A limited edition I think.

The .303 is a rimmed cartridge I've considered for a combination gun or single shot.

There are few break action Shotguns with the safety margin for PSI in the High Powered range.

Shotgun geberate less pressure than magnum pistol cartridges.

If a strong enough action were found a barrel insert with some way of indexing would been much cheaper than making new barrels and it could be quickly converted back to a scattergun for bird hunting.

I have some cut off .303 barrels I've been considering using for a .32 long or .32-20 barrel insert for an aging single barrel I have.
Something along those lines, in .32 at least, might be better suited to a .410 single barrel if properly proportioned for the smaller gauges.

An insert for one of the savage M24 combo guns in say .22 over 20 ga chambered in .30-30 or .303 would greatly increase its utility.
The later versions should be plenty strong enough for those mild cartridges.
