I thought I had yak fat madness out of my system... not to be. IMA had Pattern 1841 Brit muskets on sale... for a really decent price... so I grabbed one. And got dang lucky! This one has the original brass buttplate and everything else but the rear sight. Since it's a 69 cal smooth bore, I doubt a rear sight will help things much anyway. Given that the bayonet is of a sword pattern, I figure these were meant for close combat anyway - like attacking the bad guys who were formed up in a square. Now there is the stuff of nightmares - right out in the open - NO cover at all, and since everyone is using large caliber round balls, even wounds in a non-vital place are going to be severe. More nightmares... the surgeon's main instruments were saws. But this will be a fun winter project. Please pass the blue can easy off & rubber gloves! SW

That sword bayo in one hand and my Hungarian AK in the other should keep the riff-raff & 'special interest religious groups' off'n the front step! SW |

No scabbard, Comrade Artist - it's so philthy from yak fat, it just looks like a scabbard. Blade is roughly 24" and sturdy enough to do the deal. The blade seems solid as heck! I took one pic of it partially on the bayo lug - didn't try to jamb it clear on. Shown with a Carcano bayonet for size perspective. As for a rear sight, I'm not going to look very hard. I think this was a 50 meter musket. Fire your one shot & then close combat. I see there's a place that makes repros. I might get one later on. SW

Have you got that on 45? Great vid featuring footage from "Charge of the light brigade" (which the song was about) The bugle sounds as the charge begins But on this battlefield no one wins The smell of acrid smoke and horses breath As you plunge into a certain death The horse he sweats with fear we break to run The mighty roar of the Russian guns And as we race towards the human wall The screams of pain as my comrades fall We hurdle bodies that lay on the ground And as the Russians fire another round We get so near yet so far away We won't live to fight another day We get so close near enough to fight When a Russian gets me in his sights He pulls the trigger and I feel the blow A burst of rounds takes my horse below And as I lay there gazing at the sky My body's numb and my throat is dry And as I lay forgotten and alone Without a tear I draw my parting groan |

I've only got it on CD, studio version and a live version. Still one of their best songs. I saw them live some years back, incredible show ! Best regards, A |
