I finally got my P1841 Brunswick clear apart. Amazing what a little rust & yak fat will hold together. I got some pins drifted out & screws removed, the stock literally fell apart.
The metal isn't looking too hot,either.
But never say die! Broken stock? Cruddy metal parts? Hah! I scoff at such inconveniences!
** scoff, scoff!!
**Nothing can be as hard as filling all the worm holes and inletting wooden patch work on my 2 band Snider carbine! Which also needed a new repro brass butt plate completely fitted and broken stock parts reinforced with custom fitted plugs. But it came together and looks pretty darn good. I like the way it shoots, too!
** OW!!! Just wrenched my shoulder patting myself on the back!
**No doubt about it, this looks ROUGH. Because it is and then some! But I'm a firm believer in the cliche' about eating an elephant. Anyone can do it - one bite at a time.
This will take time - a LOT of time - and will be anything but easy. My goal is to have it shootable by Easter.
I have made some tiny progress - got the top layer of yak fat off the sword bayonet. It amazed me how fast it started oxidizing. So I hosed it down with WD-40 & later on rubbed it down with machine oil. I'll post pics when it's spiffed up.
In the meantime, I'll grab more oven cleaner & my own bottle of dish soap.
The sickness continues.
