I don't see other manufacturer's make them, but is a Lee Precision crimp something to be used in competition shooting?

Best Regards,

Mark

BTW, I'm a terrible roll crimper, so these dies work for me.

This post has sat for a year and no response to it? I use the Lee Crimp dies on some of my calibers, I like them also for uniformity in my rounds. If they work for you in your competition rounds, then keep that mojo going.

I've found that the Lee neck sizers don't always hold the bullet firmly in place when I go to seat the bullet, so crimping helps this out.

Having shot a lot of competition over the years, I only crimped straight wall pistol rounds like hot 44 mag. Also 38 special wadcutters for better loading. Rifle? No crimp. I taper crimped 45 auto & 9mm for consistent feeding.

I've never used lee crimp dies. SW

The only thing I crimp is 357 max if I am shooting it in my DW. For the Encore I don't need to crimp.

Crimping rifle bullets for competition doesn't do much for accuracy. Having the bullet seat with a consistant amount of force and being true to the bore is more important. Loading a round one at a time by hand is the best method.

I actually have a Lee Loader set for 45/70. I was immediately impressed it reformed a nickel plated case partially crushed by my trapdoor falling on it. I'm hoping to see how she's made inside so I can perhaps make a similar contraption for neck sizing .557/450 and perhaps .577 Snider as well. It didn't seem real complicated.

Mark

BTW, I like the crimp dies when using Lee Precision neck sizers since they almost let the bullet drop right in the case and a bullet seater would likely do that without a bit of a crimp from their special crimp dies.
