That is a nice piece.

Not surprised to see mention of CMP here.
These rifles do have a bit of a following, especially for their accuracy.
Thanks for posting!

I bought a Ruger 177, and used it to shoot squirrels in town. Only used it one time, it was as loud as .22 short and not as effective. Apparently the Pellet is steel now?
I used to use .22 shorts as a kid, doesn't seem like they are as good now as they were then. I use the LR's now.

Nice rifle Lyman.

Stay away from lead-free pellets.
These light weight tungsten alloy pellets retain energy very poorly, and have a very low sectional density.

Look for pellet weights of 8-10.2 grains in .177 as a bare minimum.
The ruger branded B-2 based chinese break barrel springers can be made to shoot.
There have been issues in the past at times when it comes to barrel q/c...

In other words ;) , try that rifle again with some quality lead pellets.
It may take 20 or 30 pellets to get the rifle to settle down- especially if it hasn't been cleaned.
Springers will diesel on cosmoline type barrel preservatives, and bark as loud as a .22 LR.
