Took my Vetterli M81 to the 50 meter range today. This rifle hadn't seen a range for quite some time. I'm changing from WANO PP (German BP) to Pyrodex P and the Vetterli cases were the last ones filled with WANO. Results were not bad. Cases were filled with 40 grains of WANO PP. As a filler I used cous-cous and a cardboard wad. On top of all that a 320 grains .429 FPHB casted boolit. First 3 shots were too high, but after that........ "all in the black" as we say over here. Cleaning took more time compared to Pyrodex. Next time I'll fill them up with Pyrodex P. I'll keep you all posted. "All in the black" ........ Met vriendelijke groet, Martin |

Martin, Did you measure the actual group sizes? I do think it can do better if the bore is good. By the way, that is an excellent use of couscous as a filler. Save the grits for eating. Greg |

Thanks for your reply Greg. I know what you mean. I didn't measure the group sizes, because it won't get any better then this. It's not the bore, it's not the ammo, but it's the shooter that can't perform better. I don't mind though. This rifle is just plain fun to shoot. Met vriendelijke groet, Martin BTW: I agree on the use of cous-cous as a filler. |

It's (not really) complaining Mario. It's just accepting that my eyes are getting worse................I mean less good of course. Met vriendelijke groet, Martin |

Martin Do you use a rest of any kind or do you use different stances? prone, standing, bench etc. I use a single point support, a white cane. When I shoot people hide behind their cars. "When you have to shoot, shoot don't talk" Eli Wallach as Tuco. |

oldernavy, Like you I use a single point support. I have one advantage though. I shoot at an indoor range, which means the bullet can't leave "the tunnel". No need for anyone to hind behind cars or something, as long as keep pointing the rifle in the right direction. Met vriendelijke groet, Martin |

OK , nice you guys - that looks like a fun one martin , but now you have me on a quest for a white cane for a shooting rest , it will be well in keeping with my eyes these days and send a signal to those around me |

PYRODEX C will eat up your barrel in time with a consistent diet of it. just go on other sites and see what they say. if you are to lazy to spend time to clean black out of your gun you are in the wrong hobby. just use warm water, patches till they come out clean then coat with lube, VIOLA!! takes less time than it did than to post this. |
