Have to start replacing a few things.
The truck was broken into last fall, and some favorites are gone.



It's a start. It really doesn't replace the 1st and 2nd 13-XX variants that are gone.



Took a chance on this with the reduced price.
Fortunately, it pumps up and holds air.



I see Crosman has changed hands again, and joins the parent company of Barnett and a few others.

Did a little work on it tonight.
Swapped out the 35lb sear spring and have it down to a slightly more manageable 4 lb pull.
Good enough for now.
I'll have to see about getting a flat top piston kit in for it soonish.
In the mean-time, there's a 3rd variant on for cheep on one of the other boards I'm on.
I think I'll pull the trigger on it- it's brass body valve is not often seen, and has a bit more volume capacity than it's modern counter-part...

The 13-XX series has a lot going for it.
It's one of the few air pistols on the market that actually meet the manufacturer's velocity claims.
Better than about 10 years ago when they were claiming 500 fps for this one.
(The 13-77 in .177 actually does 500)
The overly heavy sear spring is a lawyered item, and not that hard to take care of once you learn what you're doing.
I fully expect 460 fps out of it at 10 pumps.
I'll take the chronograph with me on the next pit session.

The flat top piston is a little more work.
Tons of U-tube vids on that one.

I waited too long to make up my mind on the old pistol, and it sold already.

I had a Sheridan 5mm pumper rifle I really liked. Loaned it to a friend and haven't seen it again. Mostly because I never took the time to go see him. He moved - I moved...

Wouldn't mind another, but I haven't searched auctions for a bargain. SW

That is an idea I have yet to act on.

From the stand-point of a pumper hunter, the 5mm/.20 is a good compromise.
Better velocity and less wind-drift than .22, and better projectile weight than .177.

There were some Prometheus .20 cal. hunting pellets on the market a while back that were said to be very good on small game.

Unfortunately, the old Sheridan pumpers now command collector grade pricing.
For me, at least, the best route would be to find non-functioning guns, or parts.
It is still something that is worth looking into...

im sorry to hear of the break-in and your loss , it looks like the replacement will be a nice one , i know so little of air guns [i was forbidden in my youth due to my fathers experience] however i do have a crossman rifle as well as a DPMS AR type full auto BB gun , also a 1911 CO2 , and ladst but not least a webley [early 1920s] mkI pellet that still has good seals and shoots real nice , these are nothing i shoot often , just for pests in the yard now and again or for fun with grandkids , although that has dropped off as they aged , more live fire with cartridge these days - antiques , cowboy stuff and modern items ,

Finally got out to the pit for a bit of a shoot.



That's a bit above the factory mandated 10 pumps.
At 12 pumps with a 14.3 gr. wadcutter.
At 10, it averages 430 fps, which is actually with-in range of the makers claim.

I did not test for group.
Some bonehead that looks a lot like yours truly forgot to pick up targ-dots, and a card to mount them on.
Did have a bit of a kick bouncing 12 ga hulls around with it.
It needs to be shot a little bit more before accuracy testing anyways.



While I was at it, I shot off a 12 gram co-2 bulb in the Diana Chaser pistol/carbine.
The .177 bbl it wears is very accurate.



The Seneca/Dragonfly pumper got a bit of a work-out too.
It propels a 8.6 gr domed pellet at 800 fps.
Scope is a nice one, but a little large for the application.
I'll have to order in a smaller Discovery scope for it.




There's the road into the gravel pit.
Tons of Deer around today.
I did not get to shoot for as long as I would have liked to.
The truck's on-board thermometer read 84 F this afternoon, and I had to get out of the sun.
I am a bit on the well-done side probably got a good sunburn...

I have the same model chronometer and it works well for my purposes. I keep detailed records in my chronograph log, too. SW

The Shooting Chrony company is now defunct.
This canadian out fit had some good products.
I think Caldwell took over their operations somehow.
Their current chronograph line looks similar.

I could have got the averaging printer when I bought mine, but couldn't see the extra cost and extra stuff to lug around.
I also couldn't think of a way that I would organize the cash register type printouts that would make sense.
I still don't mind figuring out averages for myself.
I can "almost" average a 5 shot string in my head.

I need a replacement diffuser set for mine.
After 20 some odd years, the nylon has dried out, and mine are held together with bits of packing tape here and there.

Discovery VTR-3

3 - 12 X 40mm in a 30mm tube.



Somewhat dark look at the entire scope.
I'll get better pix in daylight.
The direct flash glares a bit too much here, and I was a bit lazy to fabricate a diffuser for it.
Wearing it's sunshade here.
The shade will stay on it, providing it will fit my nylon rifle case.
It also came with flip caps.
It's going on my first variant .177 Artemis (Dragonfly) pumper air rifle.



This is it's most important point here:
Internal parallax adjustable objective. (Side focus)
We'll see how honest the focus distance claims are at the next (soon) gravel pit session.



1/4 minute click stops.
Lock-down turrets have resettable zero, provided you have the allen key with you.



Power ring and flip cap detail.

It came with a side focus wheel which I will not be using- I can't get the rifle into it's case with the side wheel mounted.

I'll try and get a reticle pic up when I can get the right lighting conditions.



Diopter correction eye-piece in the Euro non-locking style...

There it is mounted on the pumper rifle at image bottom.



Loading will probably be a bit tight.
I may have to use the rotary mag- if I can find it- for test purposes.
Hopefully head out to the gravel pit Sunday sometime...

I hope so!

Shoot for group sometime this afternoon, if all goes okay.

25 yds is pushing it for an air rifle- even at 800 fps, which I'll go into later on the appropriate thread.
It is however, a shot I'd seriously consider on a grouse, with the right pellet.

looks like a real nice scope ,

Didn't get to zero it today- far too windy.
Got it close though- with-in 2".



Phone pic showing some guy with a 13-22 wearing a 24" .177 bbl and a shoulder stock.
It's scope is an Ali-China 4-12 X 40mm that's been covered here before.
It also has a rear velocity adjuster made by yours truly.
The adjuster increases, or decreases hammer strike as desired.
Run up to full throttle it will launch a 10.1 grain dome at 775 fps at 18 pumps.

Will have to wait for a break in these wind gust days to get final zero on the new scope.

What's so funny about Peace Love and Understanding?

Quick test- pop a fresh 9V battery into it.

If it reads "A/L" under steady incandescent lamps, it's probably good to go.

They came calibrated for different uses- the most odd-ball being paint-ball.
The original factory cardboard boxes were marked for what they were to be used for.
Mine pre-dates the english/metric switch, and seems to be accurate with the .22 L.R. and airgun stuff I pass over the screens.
