Or cav carbine if you'd rather. I got this pretty cheep because the seller advertised it as having been in a fire. I bought it just for the bayonet. Just got it in & it has not been in a fire. It has been varnished & that has deteriorated. Looks like it got hot but it didn't. Firing pin snaps smartly & the nosecap retaining spring is quite springy.

So I'll keep the bayonet - spiff up the cav carbine & see if I can find it a new home. Or not... too soon to tell really. It has a great bore & if it shoots well... who knows.

Now to lay off gunborker. I can do it! Really! No joke! SW

Well, I'm trying dammit! But people seem to be selling older stuff like this so they can buy EBRs & AKs. That or buy a box of 22LR ammo.

The market is way down on what I collect so it's hard not to check the Evil Auctions. Even harder not to type in a low bid & hit enter. SW

Any thoughts I had of selling this are out the window - the bayonet is numbered to the gun. I'd rather be lucky than good! SW

Cool gun! can't wait to hear how it shoots. Does that bayonet spring into place kinda like a switchblade? On another note I saw a 500 rd. box of 22lr at a gun show yesterday for 70 bucks. I couldnt believe it.

Took it out for a function test just now. Functions great! The sighting plane seems to be a bit off though. You think a Carcano shoots high, one of those can't hold a stick to this! Like 3' high @ 50 yards!

Point blank must be 300 yards! But no issues with function. I'll address the finish tomorrow. Strip the crappy varnish - wash w/ soap-n-water - hand rub BLO when completely dry.

Speaking of high rimfire prices... I was checking the feedback of a fellow bidding on one of my gunborker rifles... He PAID $710 for a full case of common 22 rimfire ammo. Yup - 71 busks a brick... $7.10 per box o' 50. Criminy!

I hope he keeps bidding! SW
