Went to the Ghent militaria show with my buddies Steve & Mark a couple weeks ago.
Not really a big show, but good for a couple hours of browsing. Didn't buy anyhting big, but a British seller had a boxfull of these "Vietnam Theatre made patches". Probably somebody's collection, had over 100 of them and no 2 the same.
They looked pretty authentic to me and you ever hardly see these things over here.
I selected 4 of them which I thought look pretty cool.
Any thoughts about these ?

The Vietnamese patch MIGHT be legit - the others are copies. SW

...hard to tell-they were always so sloppy... ...here's a couple I can guarentee original made for our squadron and motto-since I got 'em personally
...the part of map you see behind the patches is an actual used in flight on a bomb mission over North Vietnam in 72...I was a Squadron Photo Intel Specialist back then and after the cruise these were left over-I grabbed one for a souvenier of those days....it had LtJg Swigart's name still on it....37 years after the mission was flown I was able to track him down and give it back to him.....

You mean there's people spending their time making fake ones ?
I ain't doubting you, but why would people bother ?
They do look pretty old.
Aniways, fake or not, they didn't cost that much and they look kinda cool.
I was considering framing them with some official patches I have collected over the years.
But then I'd have to find a place on the wall to hang the frame A

I checked with a couple guys who said if the patches were made in country, they could be legit. Sharp letters are the hangup. Notice the lettering on Mario's patches vs the ones shown. There's quite a difference.

Some small units did have patches made locally it seems.

There is fakery going on there. Like never buy dog tags "from back in the day". ARVINs had the same dogtag machines we did which were assimilated by the commies. Doesn't take much to age new ones to look 45 years old. SW

I suppose with these things it would be quite impossible to ascertain if they are original or not, as they are not official issue. How to determine where & when they were made ? Since there was a banana box full of them, maybe somebody spent her/his long winter nights making them just to pass the time. Not really a big issue for me, I didn't pay a fortune for them and they look interesting enough.
The only confirmed originals are the only ones you bring back yourself, I concur on that point.
