I have always wanted to mess around with one & when I ordered some computer stuff, I noticed this model was on sale. 800 lumens! That is darn bright! I'm thinking of giving it to wife's single seester for self defense. Nitecore P20

Pop this in a baddie's eyes & she would have plenty of time to kick him where he didn't want to be kicked, draw her gat or beat feet. He would be seeing nothing but colored dots for about 20 minutes. SW

Really good idea. At my CCW course, the instructor turned off the lights and walked by us with one of these. Even with our eyes closed, the light was painful to say the least. I can only imagine what it would do to an unsuspecting bad guy.

I have not got a P20, but I do have several Cree ultrafires. They only use a single AA cell, not those crap lights with 3xAAA with their break prone holder. There are a lot of bad knock offs that do not have a genuine Cree element. These are clever in that they have a little inverter circuit that raises the voltage to a usable level. I don't know about 800 lumens and 18-26 hours even with lithium batteries.
With rechargeable nimh they last approximately 1 hour in an ultrafire.

I hate the multimode because who wants to click through those modes when all you need is light not a night multimedia display.

ps you can tell the Crees by their distinctive emitter image cast when the beam is focused. Cree a product of North Carolina State University researchers who formed their own company. I think they are the most efficient leds on the market.

very nice - one to keep on her person , and if up-close-and-personal tell her to poke him in the eye with that front lens and twist it

I carry a slightly larger "Cat" version at work. It takes 2 double "a"s, and burn time is about an hr on standard Duracell copper tops. I was told not to use re-chargeables in it when I bought it- the reduced voltage would be too hard on the L.E.D. circuitry.

I could do without the multi-mode lighting myself. Just as bright as possible light for me, and that's enough.

Regards,

Doc Sharptail

Doc,

I fully agree about the multi-mode. This is totally useless and a waste of time if you are trying to see how to use a key or just about anything else. It might come in use if you are in the middle of the ocean on a life raft trying to signal a plane in the middle of the dark but even that could be done with a normal single function light. Under normal circumstances the multi-mode is actually a handicap.

My single battery Ultrafire seems to do fine with nimh batteries and did not come with any rechargeable warnings, but like you said all of that power consumes batteries quickly. About an hour is all I get and while there are only two contacts compared to the trash 3 AAA batteries type led flashlights, they have to be kept very clean.

i hear what you are saying , but ive looked at the strobe and the green lazer on my sig 1911/viridian setup , i doubt anyone really wants to look at any of that intense light - straight on or strobe mode and the green dot is a trigger pull from dead at any distance indoors , trust me on that i have proved it , and its under my pillow nights
