Yesterday's Weapons Forums

....came home from out of town trip (where there was no internet or cellphone access) to find box from the wilds of Haystack Nebraska and Comrade Author Hogger...am making this short for now as I am still unpacking and settling in but wanted to thank Hogger profusely from most outstanding gifts he has sent via Haystack that came from his trip across big pond.. ....wifey came scurrying over to see what I was babbling excitedly about....I will add more later and I'm sure Hogger will elaborate more better than I can...
....inside box was (if I correctly identified) a WW2 Era French Navy/Marine kepie....and a GEN-YOO-WINE Turkish Fez (aka tarboosh)-which will complement a silk wall hanging I brought back from a trip I made to Izmir Turkey 42 years ago perfectly...!!!.... and a gorgeous 1911 holster....attatche a couple pics...the hats fit my handsome dome perfectly...!!!
....thank you profusely Comrade Author....my words cannot adequatly express that ....I love 'em and they will be cherished as long as I'm around... ....attatched are just a few pics....more later

The seller said it's from a French native levy unit based in Algeria. I think. He spoke with a thick French brogue & neither my friend, Tamas or I speak that. SW

....dont blame you for not wanting to try it on....and I wont be wearing it outside-especially with recent events... ....but we had a joke among us admins that we should have a group pic taken all wearing Fez's... ....upon further examination there is a small hole visible where perhaps the star was...its in the correct location...I have found info of French units using Algerian natives,but nothing about any levy units.......still diggin'...

My 1916 Enfield wants to put some holes in the fez already. Down boy, down.

As for the kepi, yes I am jealous, but that's way too modern for me. Franco-Prussian-WWI is more my style. Think Rat Patrol...... My Lebel is getting lonely. It keeps telling me French fries are really Belgian.... Where's the mustard and mayo when you need them?

Man, I used to have a Turkish Mauser. Its now a No1 MkII or vise versa 38 cal Enfield revolver. Before that it was a Mossberg .22lr. I wonder if I should trade my cats for something....ummh, turn herd of cats to herd of cattle. I'll be rich!

BTW, those big round balls for your Snider are on the way due sometime on Wednesday for those of you out west expecting such. UPS guy at the counter said, ".600 diameter, never heard of those." Found out he was a gun guy too and was making a BP powered golf ball cannon out of a very thick piece of pipe he found at the recycling yard I go to from my lead and tin.
