On later Italian Vetterlis, you will see cursive PP on the top barrel flat with is the abbreviation for interchangeable parts. The early Vetts didn't have that. I had two 1870 Moschettos, and the bajonet would flat not interchange. Must have been something the gunsmith union dreamed up to promote job security. SW |

sounds like something that might occur - ive always looked at the minimum of interchangeability/compatible parts as a plus in collecting but i see the allure of these |

Saw something that looks suspiciously like this yesterday in Ciney. I didin't have a magazine and the rear sights were different. This one did not have a bayonet either. Tom thinks it might have been converted to single shot ? Or maybe it's a different model alll together. Can't tell you more as this was at one of the no-touch tables ... Condition was very good to excellent, priced at 1500. BRGDS, A |

These were made as single shots. When WW1 began, a FEW were converted to 6,5 caliber since there weren't enough Carcanos to meet demand. I need to come over & look around at Ciney for a bajonet. I saw two on 2dehands that look close, but personal inspection is required. SW |
