Scratch another off the "must have" list.
Nikkor 55 micro.

Reproduction scales are for use with it's dedicated 2 X teleconverter.
Unfortunately, it's teleconverter ended up on a 300 f 4.5 nikkor, and I was unable to convince the vendor the 2X belonged with it. No matter. I have extension tubes here that will match and better it. The tubes will be a shade faster as there is no optics in them...

On a more positive note, this has to be the sharpest lens I've ever laid my hands on. It shades the f 2.8 vivitar version I had by quite a bit.
As is, it will focus as close as 1/2 life size, which is saying a lot for a late 70's hunk of glass, aluminum, and steel...

Looking forward to getting some spring flowers work done with it. All we need now is a good rain.

I should do one more profile pic of the lens, with it set to infinity so it will look a bit more recognizable...

Regards,

Doc Sharptail

That would be a good one for pics of dew drops on bugs, flowers & such. SW

Gear acquisition syndrome mixed with a shade of OCD is a bit of a strange condition. ;)
(the OCD manifests it's self in strange ways. Old outdoor lamps are hard for me to pass without tripping a shutter or 2)
Prices are still low enough for me to get away with this, but they are rising.

As to the lens, this one is actually the last flat-field version Nikon made. After this one, the optical design changed slightly...

It is no slouch at normal photo taking distances. Focus throw is surprisingly short between 2.5 feet and infinity.
It lets you know quickly when you're in focus~ off the ground glass. Focusing aids just confirm what you can already see.
This would be a very good lens to use with an "e" type architectural screen.

Doc Sharptail
