DSLR.

Nikon D-200. It's about 16 years old, which is probably a dinosaur.
I got it for a price I thought I could afford, and all are happy all around :P

Sample photo with my old 55mm Micro Nikkor aboard.
Absolutely amazing viewed at the full size.
That is sister with her Nikon P&S.
Reduced here to meet forum parameters.

More on this in the picture forum in a couple of days.
For now, the processor is a bit on the slow side, compared to the lightning speeds I get from the newer compacts.

The image quality is absolutely worth the old tech head-aches, as can be seen above.
Nary an auto-focus lens here. I got enough of my old Nikkors to keep me occupied for quite a while.

Format is DX (APS-C) , which means a sensor area slightly bigger than half a 35mm frame.
That's about 20 times as big as the cigarette filter diameter sized sensor in the point and shoot compacts I have.
There's also a new to me 28mm manual focus lens for me to discuss once the excitement calms down a bit... :bigrin: :bigrin: ;)

I don't know about abandoning film just yet.
The F-2 mold is a tough nut to crack.
Use of a DSLR is unlike anything I've ever done before.
Using the manual focus lenses on it is a real hoot.
I did pick up another 28mm lens.

After about 80 frames or so, this camera has a lot to like.

The big plus is I can finally shoot without my glasses!
There's more than enough positive diopter range adjustment for my far sighted old eyes.
I can spot meter with it too.
The on board flash has TTL auto control.

This thing is a heck of a lot of fun.

The manual for it leaves a bit to be desired for clarity.
Lots of flipping back and forth and hunting around in it for "how to do it's".

I can't find much for foibles- if the proper EXIF data is entered for the non cpu lens being used, most is all okay. With vivitar lenses, the aperture display disappears at the half stop click settings. It also disappears between f-stops with nikkor lenses.

I am mostly thoroughly impressed with this.

The experience is not the same as the old F-2, which I dearly love, and will continue to use.
I think I am still a bit faster on the up-take with the old film camera's full frame viewfinder.
Where the new to me camera really shines is with it's lit control display in viewfinder.
That option is immediately noticeable. It is not LED's but is softly back lit LCD's.

Probably going to have more to discuss on this camera as I learn a bit more.
It's a bit of a steep curve- over 200 pages to the user's manual....
