An enabler friend told me about a place selling moderately prices SKS rifles. Chinese aid to Albania. It was the best price I've see in quite a while so I grabbed one. Seller had crates still in the cosmo @ $375 or a few with degreased stocks for $100 more. Also had a handful completely cleaned for $700.

Bah. I ain't skurred of a little grease! I've writing to accomplish next, but I'll dive into the grease monster after that. I'm convinced a premier product of Albania is cosmolene, but at the same time, I've never gotten a rusty one.

Only one crack in the stock I could find & it's in a non-critical place. Overall I'm happy with it. SW

Congrats on the grab.

I've seen replacement stocks go on sale for as little as 50 bucks~ usually around Christmas time. That's for the f/g sporter version with much improved comb.

Workable pig/coyote whacker for the truck....

Yes, the market was flooded with them for a while. I remember sellers charging a little more for SKS with threaded barrel. Apparently press fit barrels were used for a while.

I wouldn't be too confident with one of those. SW

I did the final cleanup to find the stock was a little rougher than I thought at first. So off to gunborker where I found a nice replacement for $40 + postage.

Got it today & immediately discovered replacement stocks aren't a drop in fit. In this case, the recoil lug was oversized where it meets the receiver. Out came the mill bastage file and about 20 strokes with that made it come together just right.

I'd also ordered a 1" stock extension that helped a lot more than I thought it would.

The 3 round function test went well - now for the accuracy test! SW

i just parted with mine , it was an early chinese under russian oversight , blade bayo , i just didnt shoot it enough
