A couple here:  It's an A/I-s. Seems to be reasonably sharp in the mid-morning quick snaps I took with it on the D-810.  I more or less jumped at it over the L-37-C filter, which is getting hard to come by around here. I think this is going to be a final attempt at a zoom for me.  Very nicely coated glass in it. orta have my head examined   I suppose I felt sorry for it a bit. Talked price down from 75 CAD, but still paid too much at 60.  Still an interesting lens, and my first 35mm prime. Note absence of "foot" markings- this one is metric only. It dates to roughly 1967 or so, and is possibly made for sales in Europe.  Screwless mount plate. Aperture ring slides under the "A/I" tab on the D-810. I'll have to remove the rabbit ears prong so it will rotate freely, and stop-down meter with it. Now to find out how to massage that filter ring back into some semblance of sanity.  I've taken a few frames with it after minor surgery, and it seems to be o.k. despite the physical damage.  This ain't bad at all. Wide open at f2.8 at ISO 1600 with marginal for focal length shutter speeds. Lens was obviously designed for close in work with a minimum focus distance of just under a foot. I'm very much in favor of this type of quietly muted back-ground that the wide open shots provide.  Excellent definition for a lens this old.  Some slight slow shutter speed blurring here at 1/8 sec. Monochrome wide open at f2.8 and ISO 1600. This was last year's Christmas gift from the better half, and I'm a bit enamored of it. It's seen a bit of more or less "normal" use, and doesn't show much evidence of it. Blade profile is very utilitarian, and works quite well. As to the "S" 35mm f2.8, I am quite impressed. There is some minor fall off wide-open, but it takes a bit of extreme magnification to find it. That the lens groups were not de-centered is testament to it's excellent construction and design. I need to experiment with it outside in good daylight at reasonable ISO speeds and apertures. Regards, Doc Sharptail |

 Nikkor "Q" 135mm f 2.8   It has a really cool no-rattle locking built-in hood.  Nice to see someone besides me home converting these things. Not a bad job, even if a tiny shade rough. It works well on the D-810.  Same shop had these, which I more or less jumped at. Nikon filters.  They come in beautiful little jewel cases that I haven't seen for the longest time.  Two of them came lettered in red, which is a very nice touch. (the L-1-A came white lettered)  There was a scrap of paper mostly in Japanese in the A-2 filter box. What's interesting is how many, and which focal length lenses came with the same 52mm filter size... Regards, Doc Sharptail |

Filters in original boxes was a good find. By the box condition, it looks like they saw frequent use. As more and more old school photographers pass away there will be more stuff like this to be found in 2nd hand shops and flea markets. Also garage sales if those are popular in Winnipeg. SW |

I have had very little luck with lenses or cameras at garage sales. The local Kijiji pages have been a bit of a source. I've gotten one good lens from a flea market. The bulk of my stuff comes from 2 local camera shops that deal in used equipment. It's largely a matter of being in the right place at the right time. In most instances, these shops are reasonable, or close enough to it to trigger a wallet pulling reaction from me. (Some of the stuff on flea-pay is grossly over-inflated, and I refuse to contribute to a practice as nasty as that) Now to find out about filters. I know the L1-A is "Skylight". I don't recognize the number codes on the other 2, and will have to go on-line to find out what they are. Nikon used their own alpha numeric system for their filters. I have a guide around here somewhere, that shows the equivalence to the Kodak system- just a matter of finding it... Regards, Doc Sharptail |

I've tried with the A-2. It boosts contrast in dim sky backed scenes quite a bit with the old single coated 135 f2.8 nikkor. It also adds a slightly bluish cast to the image. I need to investigate this further- the correction filters are important I think- they bring things up in the image that post processing can't. Regards, Doc Sharptail |

I am of the opinion this filter was to tone down the warmth of contrasty situations with Kodachrome 64, but could be mistaken. I am going to have to hit the books to find what the original purpose of the filters I have here were. I think it's a little on the blue side for use with C-41 films. It also may be as you say, to balance artificial lighting- perhaps the old M-type blue flashbulbs, but I lean towards the Kodachrome bit... Regards, Doc Sharptail |
