Having sold a couple of dusty guns this past weekend it was time to turn part of the proceeds into a different toy. Which in this case was a Model 1889 Prussian Officer's Infantry sword made before WW1.

Seller told me up front some of the wiring is a "little loose" but I wanted the ornate hand guard and needle sharp point. I like the Imperial swords a lot better then the WW2 types - much more ornate and no Razi marks. SW

It just showed up and I'm way happy with it!

Original owner must have been tall. Blade length is 33", and sword makers back then figured blade length on end user's height. No marks on the drag, either.

Wilhelm II cypher is still firmly attached - finger loop is a bit frayed but entirely usable.

Made by Carl Eickhorn who used a squill logo. WKC had a knight's helm - ALCOSO used a stylized scale and Puma... you get the idea.

I used to collect US Military swords. I learned right fast that reference books are required. Ex., the Staff and Field Officer's sword was made by everyone and his coon dog up into the 1930's or later. Army issue swords to the other ranks are easier to date as they were issued by the government to the troops (Not private purchase)and have inspector's marks, etc.

I've an ornate American naval officer's dress sword made by one of the big German firms. Plated and etched, it must have cost a lot back then.

I'll try to get pics up later today. SW

I have one from a local (now closed I think) Military school (Fishburn) that was given to my Father (he serviced their weapons) and a handful of oddball stuff that I have picked up here and there over the years,
including one of those big bulky Patton types,

one is a Knights of Columbus (not sure if that is what they are called, the Catholic folks)
