I used to collect US Military swords. I learned right fast that reference books are required. Ex., the Staff and Field Officer's sword was made by everyone and his coon dog up into the 1930's or later. Army issue swords to the other ranks are easier to date as they were issued by the government to the troops (Not private purchase)and have inspector's marks, etc. |

I've an ornate American naval officer's dress sword made by one of the big German firms. Plated and etched, it must have cost a lot back then. I'll try to get pics up later today. SW |

I have one from a local (now closed I think) Military school (Fishburn) that was given to my Father (he serviced their weapons) and a handful of oddball stuff that I have picked up here and there over the years, including one of those big bulky Patton types, one is a Knights of Columbus (not sure if that is what they are called, the Catholic folks) |
