Hello all,

We just returned from a well deserved vacation in France.
This year we decided to go to a region called the Vendee.
We stayed at a camping site and drove to the various villages at the Atlantic coast.
Weather was fantastic and the sunsets overwhelming.

Last Thursday we drove to a camping site east of Paris.
We spent both Friday and Saturday in Paris visiting the various sites like the Eiffel tower, the Louvre, the Montmartre and the Arc de Triomph.
We used the Metro or subway to travel from one place to the other.
We had lunch at the Champs Elysees................OK, OK ....at MacDonalds, but....at the Champs-Elysees. :D

Some pictures of course.

View from the Eiffel tower to the Military Academy.

Picture of the Arc de Triomphe.

And.......for the ladies among us.....Paris .....the city of fashion.
The price tag says 730 Euros, that's about $1036 USD.
For that price you can choose between the black and the blue shoe and get the second shoe for free.

We had a great time.
I hope you like the pictures.

Met vriendelijke groet,

Martin

Yes, great pics as usual!

Over $1000 for a pair of uncomfortable shoes? They must be for "sophisticated" tourists! ;) SW

You are right SW.
These shoes are for the sophisticated tourist only.
For me.....the stuff they sell on the Champs-Elysees is either too sophisticated or unaffordable for me......except a big mac and a coke.

@ Mario
Aaahh....the food.
What I will remember from this trip are the excellent sea mussels and a fantastic white wine to go with them.

I know how think about McDonalds Mario, but try to say no to a 10 year old looking at you with her big blue eyes. :kap:

About my annual vacations.......maybe it's because of the distances to the various places.
I don't have to drive many miles to get to Paris for example.
It costs me a little under 7 gallons of diesel to get there.

Some distances from my home town to:
The German border: 15 miles
The Belgian border: 93 miles
The French border: 186 miles
The city of Paris: 340 miles
The Normandy beaches: 430 miles

To New York city (by plane) 3295 miles

You know that it always has been my big dream to go to the US and it will happen some day.
Don't worry Mario.....I will give you a call first.
I want that HUGE steak to be ready when I get there. :jmp:

Met vriendelijke groet,

Martin

Great pics as usual Martin. Hopefully you can get to visit the US while I am still alive, would love to meet you. I would even help Mario get the steaks.

I made it to the Eiffel Tower, and the Arch d Triumphe, spent a day and a half in the Louvre. The metro was easy to use even for a non-french speaking person like myself. Spent an evening at the Moulon Rouge. Didn't make it to Jim's grave though (one wacked out dude)

Before he was very well known as a comedian Steve Martin wrote a short story called "the Cruel Shoes".
The photo of those overpriced ugly shoes brought this to mind.
I think the story was printed in Playboy magazine.
The illustration of the Cruel Shoes was something else.

France is beautiful country, too bad its infested with Frenchmen.
Seriously though I've developed a better feeling towards the French in recent years after studying some of their history.
