a friend owns it , got it from a relative who brought it back from the pacific islands after WWII , anybody have any thoughts ?

A pinfire made in Belgium as shown by the LGE proof. Possibly purchased privately by a Japanese officer in the WW1 era.

Lefucheux pistols started in 1832 with Casimir Lefucheux of paris with the model 1832 and continued to maufacture firearms till around 1890 under Casimir's son Eugene. They made a wide variety of pistols for civilians and under military contracts to the French, Spain, Italy, Russia, Norway and both sides of the U.S. during the civil war . I am guessing here, but it was a French issue pistol at one time so that may be how it got into that part of the world.
If you ever get the inscriptions translated please post them.

It could also have been owned by a plantation owner or supervisor. SW

one of mine folding trigger pocket model. Have a pair of different military but seems no pictures in the comp..

this is pretty cool info , looks most like that "stonewall jackson" model on christopher's site , without the engraving and fancy grip scales , could have gone to japan with our "military advisors" in 1868 era ???
