I saw a list somewhere but now I can't find it. Does anyone have link to a list of primer specs, dimensions, capabilities/characteristics etc.?
The one I'm thinking of listed the dimensions of Large Rifle and Small Pistol, etc and then some indication of how powerful one was vs another, what situations you would want to use one instead of another (e.g. I think there were some examples of using a Large Pistol primer in a cartridge intended for use in a rifle. That sort of thing)

Most of it I think was just ranking the brands in (I think) power, and choosing one brand for some powders vs a different brand for other powders.

I don't remember if it also listed percussion caps as well. That might have been a different list on a different site.

You may be referring to an article that appeared in American Rifleman a few years ago. I don't remember which issue, but that might be a place to start. I recall the article discussing relative "heat" of primers and hardness of the cups which is an issue with military semi-autos that have floating firing pins. Could've been about five or six years ago, now that I think about it.

Adding my own two cents, I've found that WW primers of recent manufacture seat easier in foreign-made brass that might tend to have a tight primer pocket.

The American Rifleman online archive doesn't seem to go back far enough to find the article that I am referring to. That doesn't mean that you didn't see it online. I'm sure I mentioned this particular article in a post either here or on the other YW site in the reloading forum.

But then again, this very well may not be the article that you are seeking but it contained information such as you described in your original post.
