Post subject:  Price of GI ammo cans

Not long ago, I returned from this weekend's WAC gun show. One thing I noticed is what used GI ammo cans are selling for. Oh boy, we should've invested several thousand dollars in GI ammo cans a number of years ago when the DRMO was auctioning them off by the truckload for next to nothing.

The prices I saw today were $12.95 for the narrow ones (".30 cal.") and $15.95 for the wider ones (".50 cal.") in multiple locations. Some were higher in price.

Whoever would've thought these things would go so high? I guess all the people who are stockpiling ammo writ large need something to bury it in out in the backyard.

One of my elementary school chums confided to me that he takes an empty plastic soda bottle and dribbles loose .22 cartridges into it, then buries it.

Yeah, I call it the "shipping tax."

A vendor at the gun show had some of those new cans, unissued, no markings, etc., and they cost several dollars more than the used ones.

Never had to buy an ammo can, seems overpriced for what they are. I've picked up what I needed from the military over the years, or extra's from my LGS. I saw fenced in storage yards in Afghanistan full of empties, waiting for DRMO to ship stateside or get destroyed for scrap. I just use mine for storage of ammo and mags, I do like those Plano brand ammo/range boxes to take to the gun range though.

i have a couple that were my FILs , he kept most everything in ammo cans , career in the navy taught him to waste not anything , when i inherited them i filled them with my stocks of reserve ammo , as well made as they are and the great seals they have , its a shame so many got destroyed
