.....picked up a good one....first edition-1948,so all the details are fresh.....
..."From Salerno to the Alps-A History of the Fifth Army-1943-1945" by Lieutenant Colonel Chester G. Starr....fantasticly minutely detailed book of the Allied landings in Salerno, all the way thru Italy...all the famous battles that weere almost overlooked by D-Day and France....I got it because it fills in a lot of missing details of my Father in Laws unit....the 804th Tank Destroyer Battalion that went from Salerno-thru the Gustav Line...Naples,Monte Cassino,Rome, then veered northeast and ended up in Austria at the end of the war....nasty hard fought bloody as hell.........his battalion took part in many historic battles....
...amazing piece of history to read-if you every see it,or one of the later printings,I'd heartily recommend it...
